The daughter of Joseph Stack, Samantha Dawn Bell, called her father a very loving and caring man.
“I’m in shock right now. I’m having a nightmare. It’s overwhelming,” she said. “I don’t understand, and I keep asking why, because he loved us and he had a wonderful life, and he had so many friends and family.”
Bell spoke to News 8 over the phone from her home in Oslo, Norway, where she has lived for the past 14 years. She is his daughter from his first marriage.
“I just wish that he could have confided in me,” she said. “I wish he would have confided in me so I could have helped him… if I could have helped him. That’s the question – was he so far that I couldn’t help him? Maybe if I’d lived in the states… a little closer to him… I don’t know.”
Despite living so far away, she said she was in frequent contact with her father. “We always talk with each other,” she said. “Once every two weeks.”
Bell said she had no idea he was frustrated. “He talked about how he wanted to come out, and he wanted to come out and visit me. He wanted me to come out and visit him, and he talked about his band,” she said.
