We often hear from politicians and in the news talk about reasons why we should go to war against Iran and previously Iraq because they have broken a UN resolution or are not complying with the wishes of weapon inspection teams.
Our leaders often like to take the moral high ground when talking about human rights and how the wishes of the international community must be adhered to when the UN makes a decision. They use the force of the UN and the security council when they require moral legitamacy to go to war yet they are prepared to ignore or circumvent it when votes don’t go their way.
When the west uses the UN to deal with issues surrounding the Middle East they are perfectly prepared to issue resolutions that legitimise the death of millions of children through starvation as they did during the sanctions regime imposed on Iraq. They are also perfectly willing to use the UN to legitimise pre-emptive wars and as they are now doing with Iran impose sanctions for it’s pursuit of nuclear energy just because they suspect it might be planning a weapons programme despite the say so of nuclear weapons inspectors.
However there is one country in the Middle East that does have nuclear weapons and this same country has been occupying parts of Palestine in breach of UN resolutions for half a century. In fact Israel has broken more UN resolutions that any other in UN history. This country also has the benefit that their biggest ally, the USA, will veto any serious resolution against them preventing any action from being carried out.
Does this seem right or fair? Was the UN designed only to be a tool to be used by the powerful to legitamise it’s actions. A talking shop to be ignored at will no matter how deserving a resolution may seem purely because powerful lobby groups such as AIPAC have control over most of the US congress?

You wouldn’t have an up to date one would you?
Just updated the bottom list with some more resolutions.
The real question is not why has Israel ignored so many resolutions. The real question is why is there so many resolutions condemning Israel when compared to countries that have real abuses that kill hundreds of thousands like North Korea and Dafur? Why does Israel not get a turn on the security council? Why do countries such has Libya, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and soon to be Syria get spots on the Human Rights Committee?
I agree whole heartedly that it seems insane that countries like Libya and Saudi Arabia get to sit on the Human Rights committee. If I had my way religion would be banned and most of the problems concerning the Middle East i.e Israel / Palestine, Fundamental Islam, Puppet Governments hiding behind Sharia law and so on would hopefully disappear.
However this does nothing to hide the fact that Israel is the country which has the most number of UN resolutions directed against it.
Apart from the permanent members of he Security Council (USA, Russia, China, France and UK) and the rest of the places rotate amongst the other countries. However because up until recently Israel did not belong to any regional block of countries (having being denied permission to join the Asian group – I guess for obvious geo-political reasons) they could not sit on the council.
Since 2004 however Israel has been eligible for election to the Security Council by the Western European and Other Group as it became a permanent member of their group and so can be elected to sit on the council if that group so wished it to do so.
The UN is supposedly the “government of the world” and resolutions can be brought by any country and the votes reflect the feelings of the majority just like in any domestic parliament or congress.
I totally agree that we as a global community have done far too little to stop war, poverty and famine in many countries and seem to only act when there are other interests in play.
However this inaction on other many issues – e.g Darfur and North Korea (which by the way have various UN resolutions against them) does not negate the behaviour of a supposedly democratic nation i.e Israel.
Two wrongs don’t make a right and all that.
Hi!
U r bloody WRONG saying re the Shari’a law.
Kindly go to http://www.answering-christianity.com — IF u have the “balls.” Sharia means the LAW of the Almighty Allah SWT.
Who created u? Charles Darwin? Search as well please, either jusuf estes (with “j”) or yusuf estes (with “y”), an ex PRIEST of Texas embracing Islam. The Atheist JEWS the Zionists ALWAYS claim legitimacy of their occupying Palestine on their TWISTED religious grounds/rationale the TALMUD.
Shalom/Salaam/Peace, (Derived from THREE identical consonants S-L-M of Aramaic/Hebrew — spoken by Prophet Ibrahim Peace be Upon him/pnuh or Abraham — anda ARABIC that stand for PEACE. So is the word ISLAM)
Truly, may Allah the Akmighty Guide u to the Light, and TRUTH. Amiin. BTW, kindly read my LONG world-view vs the LUNATIC GWB and his NeoCONS gang, WHEN SATAN et al RULE! at the below mentioned Page of mine at scribd.com Thanks dude

I presume you are talking to me and you seem like a loon who is hooked on the false fairy tales that many religions including Islam, Christianity and Judaism all preach to the gullible and those looking for some kind of promise of an ever lasting life.
You can preach your religious BS as much as you want but as far as I am concerned the world would be better without people like you and your ilk whatever religion they may believe in.
You take all your evidence from books that were written by people thousands of years back who knew little about the real world around them. You didn’t know them and these people could have easily have been insane or just into hoodwinking the gullible.
I ask you >> when you see the local nutter in the High St claiming to be the son of God or some kind of prophet why don’t you follow him?
Is it because you know he’s crazy and if so how do you know he’s crazy when all he is doing is re-enacting similar behaviour to people you already follow the teachings of.
As for do I believe Charles Darwin created me – no that is plainly ridiculous.
I ask you IF you have the “balls” to watch some videos of pregnant mammals during their first trimester and tell me if you can see the difference between a human and a dolphin or dog. No you can’t – you know why? Because we all evolved from a common ancestor. Explain why God makes baby humans indistinguishable from other mammals if we are somehow unique and special?
We will never know if there is a God until we die but if there is one he is plainly evil or vindictive as anyone who is that jealous, that murderous, demands worship and allows millions of innocents to die every year before they have even heard about him (or religion in general) obviously has some kind of personality defect.
Whether “God” created the big bang or not is another matter and one I feel is more left to semantic differences. What you may call deism others call the big bang. If you are a theist however and honestly believe in the ancient texts written by nomads who knew little apart from how to kill, mistreat women, and spread misery then I feel nothing but sorrow and contempt for you.
